Nicole Kidman Responds to Plastic Surgery Rumors

Thanks to a long career in Hollywood and society’s insistence to comment on women’s appearances, Nicole Kidman has faced rumors of plastic surgery for years. How dare a woman in her late 50s still be beautiful! She must’ve had work done, we cry.

Kidman’s breakout role came in 1989 with Dead Calm, then starred in Days of Thunder a year later in which she acted opposite Tom Cruise, whom she later married and eventually divorced. Kidman was admired for her porcelain-clear skin, firey red hair, and svelte figure. And if you look at photos from then and now, she hasn’t changed much (although she’s a blonde these days). With that comes rumors, speculation, accusations even, that she’s had plastic surgery. In 2008, Kidman addressed those rumors.

“To be honest, I am completely natural,” she said during an interview with Marie Claire in 2007. “I have nothing in my face or anything. I wear sunscreen, and I don’t smoke. I take care of myself. And I’m very proud to say that.”

In 2011, she added to that during an interview with a German magazine, explaining that she’d tried Botox before but didn’t like it. “I didn’t like how my face looked afterward,” she admitted. “Now I don’t use it anymore—I can move my forehead again!”

In 2022, Kidman shared a snap to Instagram with director Lulu Wang on the set of the new Amazon series Expats. Fans took to the comments section to offer their cruel feedback. “What did you do with your face?!?!?!!!? You are starting to get like a monster, it’s sad cuz you were beautiful,” wrote one. “You don’t look like you, Nicole,” commented another. “Something is wrong with your face,” someone else chimed in.

Kidman certainly isn’t the only celebrity to face this sort of barrage online. The Boys star Erin Moriarty recently came under criticism by fans who said she’d “ruined her face.” Surprise, surprise, that shit hurts.

In a since-deleted, lengthy Instagram post shared in January 2024, the actor said, “This is something I truly never anticipated writing. We’re all subject to levels of bullying throughout our lives but I am horrified, and I felt that I deserved to take a second to address these things.”
