What He Said Before Death

As a child heartthrob, his complicated life is shown in the spotlight again after Fallen Idols airs on Investigation Discovery. Here are Aaron Carter’s last words and how he died.

The documentary’s synopsis is as follows: “‘Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter’ not only offers a deeper understanding around the allegations, but also chronicles the intense backlash Nick’s accusers have faced since their decision to speak publicly and the lasting impact that has had on their lives,” ID said in its press release on the series. “‘Fallen Idols’ explores the dark side of fame and fraught family dynamics but also the intense challenges faced by accusers who come forward against celebrities and pop culture icons in today’s modern world.”

In the trailer, Aaron Carter was very vocal about the allegations against his brother. In a couple of years time, Aaron Carter was found dead in his home Palmdale, California, after struggling with substance abuse. Yet, right before his death, he still seemed pretty hopeful for the future,

What were Aaron Carter’s last words?

Aaron Carter’s manager Taylor Helgelson spoke to The Sun U.S. about Carter’s last texts and calls with him hours before his death. “He was so excited, he was extremely optimistic. It was a few years since we released Love, and he felt ready to do another one,” he told the publication.

“I got these incredible producers from Denmark to fly out to produce his album and it was the first time in a while that I’ve seen him so excited. He had more [to give], and he didn’t quit,” Helgelson recalled. “The last night, he texted me and he said, ‘Bro, these songs are amazing.’ And I said, ‘I know, I can’t wait until you record them.’ And he said, ‘I promise you, this is our best work yet.’”

Just a couple of hours before Carter was unresponsive, Helgelson checked in on him via text. “[He replied] ‘I’m just headed back to the house. I was in L.A. All good though. Things are looking up.’ And I said, ‘I know it.’

He continued, “He said, ‘Holy s***! The new album, what the f***? This is definitely a Grammy!’ And I said, ‘Yeah, and you deserve it.’ And he said, ‘Huge! Our best work yet.’ And that was it. It was 6.32 pm.”

In his final interview, on September 14, 2022, Carter told The Sun he’d checked into a month-long outpatient program at the LA-based Lionrock Recovery to regain custody of his son, Prince. “The main reason why I enrolled into Lionrock Recovery outpatient is to help with the weed. I don’t want to smoke weed anymore. I don’t really need to,” he said.

“It’s an abstinence program and I work with an individual counselor,” he continued, adding that one-on-one work wasn’t mandatory but that it was merely a suggestion by the court. “I do group therapy, parenting classes, domestic violence classes, I got myself certified in CPR, just a lot of different things. It’s new being a parent but it’s actually become really fun and exciting and given me a new chapter of my life. It’s been amazing.”

How did Aaron Carter die?

The official cause of Aaron Carter’s death was revealed in the autopsy report on April 18, 2023, obtained by Variety. It stated his death was caused by drowning and the effects of alprazolam, a generic form of Xanax and inhaling difluoroethane—an ingredient used in cans of compressed air.

TMZ first confirmed the tragic news back in November 2022. “It is with great regret that I confirm Aaron Carter was found unresponsive this morning in his home in Palmdale, California,” a rep told the UK-based tabloid. “The family has been notified and will be flying out to Los Angeles. Aaron worked very hard towards the end of his life in recovery, to be a good father and to make amends with his family.”
